The brief

• ·A quieter, speakeasy-style lounge area needed to sit right next to a DJ zone in the same venue, without a permanent wall between them.
• ·The partition had to fold away completely so the two areas could open into a single space for larger events.
• ·Isolation needed to hold up in the low end specifically, where movable partition systems typically perform worst.

Approach

Movable acoustic partitions are their own category of solution - not full sound isolation, and shouldn't be evaluated as if they were. Real-world performance depends as much on air-tightness at the seams, ceiling, and floor as on the panel itself; even small gaps meaningfully reduce the isolation a system can actually deliver. Two systems were compared directly for this brief: DOOOR (Italy) and PCTS Alma (Portugal).
